5 effective (money) habit-changing tips
Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Thu, 11/08/2007 - 19:34.
The wildly popular ZenHabits blog recently featured a Canadian professor (U. Guelph), Ian Newby-Clark an expert on habit change. Habit change re: money is what my company, Your Money by Design, is all about ... leaving us all with fatter wallets as a result, of course!
Here are his 5 tips, with my comments pertaining to money.
1. Work on 1 habit at a time. I couldn't agree more. Many clients come to see me initially in a state of high anxiety, and are determined to do it all. At once. Get rid of their debt - now! fast! Start an ambition RRSP plan - I don't want to be a bag lady, and I'm sure I don't have enough! Oh, and go on a trip to Mexico in three months too! I desperately need a break! My role is to 'hold the horses' so to speak, and help ...

He's wealthy. His siblings are broke.
Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Sat, 11/03/2007 - 21:58.
As usual, case studies are real situations of my past or present money coaching clients. The situations are real, but the identities involved are heavily disguised. Jeff and his two siblings, a brother and sister, each inherited a sizeable legacy when their parents died. Jeff was conservative, and grew his legacy into an even more significant nest egg and is now independently wealthy. He came to me because there was an unintended consequence to his wisdom: his siblings have very little left to show for their inheritance. He is too uncomfortable to let them know of his secret small fortune in comparison.

Dragon's Den and the Millionaire Bank Robber
Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Fri, 11/02/2007 - 08:25.
Some of you may know I tasted the fiery tongue of the dragons when I auditioned for them last spring. It's an experience I won't soon forget! If you want a fun introduction to the world of business, money and venture capitalists, Dragons' Den on CBC is a must-view. And can you believe it? A bank robber known as the Penguin due to his waddling walk when he's robbed 20 banks in Vancouver WA (in the past 2 years) is a millionaire quite apart from his robbberies! Eccentric is one thing, but sheesh! Clearly, he could use some money coaching about his relationship with money!

Hallelujah. The gst is probably dropping down to 5%. That's a 1% raise for each of us. (thanks for the heads-up, mj!) Maybe this financial can now afford the new google-phone expected to be announced in the next couple weeks, and released in 2008. (oooo --- could I betray the iphone like that??)

Friday, October 26, 2007 7:30pm Pacific Baroque Orchestra Delirio Amoroso: Handel's Italian Years St. James Church (Gore & Cordova) Free admission As a 20-year old musical hopeful, Georg Händel (he hadn’t anglicized his name yet) took a trip to Italy to find out what was going on in that musical world. The Italians were singing (what else?), and the young composer quickly adopted an exuberant operatic style. “Il Delirio Amoroso” was one of three cantatas he composed at that time. In this concert you’ll not only hear what Händel wrote, but also what he heard.

This money coach loves Apple shares.
Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Tue, 10/23/2007 - 09:28.
I 'switched' a few months ago, and then so did my brother and last week so did my mom. While it has not been the problem-free experience I expected, there's no question: I've drunk the Apple kool-aid. So have a whole lot of other people. Sales this past quarter are up 29 - Hello, 29%! - over last year same time. Share prices jumped by 7% overnight.
(ahem, if I may say so, I did see this coming.)
