Happy Holidays!
Submitted by Erica Hargreave on Thu, 12/20/2007 - 21:30.
Wishing you and your loved ones a holiday filled with merriment and a happy and healthy New Year!
For us, the holidays are about spending time with the people that we love. Thus we have started a tradition of creating holiday activities that are environmentally friendly and that our friends can enjoy with their loved ones. This year’s activity, Alien’s for the Holidays, uses invasive plant species to make holiday wreaths and centre pieces, thereby giving a present to the native plants in our neighborhoods.
To enjoy this activity or last year’s Winter Festivities for the Birds, please find them on our website at www.ahimsamedia.com/educators.htm. Once there click on “Winter Activities” and then on the activity of your choice or both.

Good Morning all you lovely people!
We just posted the end portion of Really Real Films and our kid's science show, The Magic Backpack, on YouTube. It is the shows synopsis called the Rewindable Recap. For teachers this is a nice, little stand alone clip for explaining the greenhouse effect to their students. Enjoy!

"Vancouver Blizzard 2006"
Submitted by Erica Hargreave on Sun, 12/03/2006 - 12:44.
I don't know who the author of this is, but I thought you kids might enjoy it:
Day 2 - Vancouver Blizzard 2006 - Revenge of the Commuters
Chilled Vancouver commuters faced their second day of winter hell today, as
an additional 1/4 centimeter of the peculiar white stuff fell, bringing the
lower mainland to its knees and causing millions of dollars worth of damage
to the marijuana crops. Scientists suspect that the substance is some form
of frozen water particles and experts from Saskatchewan are being flown in.
With temperatures dipping to the almost but not quite near zero mark,
Vancouverites were warned to double insulate their lattes before venturing
out.
Vancouver police recommended that people stay inside except for
emergencies, such as running out of espresso or biscotti to see them
through Vancouver's most terrible storm to date. The local Canadian Tire
reported that they had completely sold out of fur-lined sandals.
Drivers were cautioned to put their convertible tops up, and several have
been shocked to learn that their SUV's actually have four wheel drive,
although most have no idea how to use it.
Weary commuters faced soggy sushi, and the threat of frozen breast
implants. Although Dr. John Blatherwick, of the Coastal Health Authority
reassured everyone that most breast implants were perfectly safe to 25
below, down-filled bras are flying off the shelves at Mountain Equipment
Co-op.
"The government has to do something," snarled an angry Trevor Warburton. "I
didn't pay $540,000 for my one bedroom condo so I could sit around and be
treated like someone from Toronto."

Halloween Haunt
Submitted by Erica Hargreave on Mon, 10/16/2006 - 23:53.
Hey Kids,
Just dropping you all a line to let you know that I will be one of the leads in this year's 2nd Annual Halloween Haunt at Bridge Studios. It is a live Halloween show on the sets of Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1 and Blade, highlighting various aspects of movie magic. As the shows are running non-stop Friday October 27 6 pm - 11pm, Saturday October 28 3 pm - 11pm, and Sunday October 29 3 pm - 9 pm, I don't know which shows I will be in, but regardless it should be a lot of fun. You can learn more about it at www.filmhaunt.com, where you can order tickets. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children, and all the proceeds go to Variety - The Children's Charity, and Children's International Summer Villages. They sold out last year before the first day of shows.

A Huge Thanks to Dane and the Inky Circus Gals!
Submitted by Erica Hargreave on Tue, 09/19/2006 - 14:17.
Just dropping a line to say thanks to Dane and the Inky Circus Gals!
Ended up teaching a bunch of Info Tech classes last week. A bit of a fish out of water scenario for me - am a science geek, but definitley not a techy. So Dane showed me how to teach the kids about blogs and how to set-up blogs. It was met with a great deal of success! Thanks Dane!
Inky Circus came into the picture as I used their site as an example of an extremely cool blog! The kids loved it! After visiting this blog, many of the students didn't want to search any further and spent the rest of the class exploring Inky Circus. So thank you!
