Arcade Fire coming to Vancouver

Submitted by Warwick Patterson on Thu, 03/29/2007 - 18:45.

Here's a scoop for ya...

"The Arcade Fire today announced their Vancouver area appearance on the upcoming North American tour.  On May 24, the band will perform outdoors at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, BC.  Tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster on Saturday, April 7 at 10:00 AM."

Just don't go buying tickets before I've had a chance to get mine first! :)

What's your plan for 2007?

Submitted by Warwick Patterson on Wed, 12/20/2006 - 00:05.

Although I haven't been around Workspace as much as I had hoped (I've been working for a company in Whistler lately), I'm there in spirit, and always look forward to spend some quality work time there (ok, I'm just a sucker for the coffee and interaction).

As Christmas rolls closer and another year wraps up, I've started taking stock of where my business is at, and what I want to accomplish in the new year.  What has everyone got in the works for 2007?  I think there are so many opportunities for collaboration and networking within the Workspace community.  In the spirit of Robert Scales' "Open Source Business", here's what I have in the works, what I've learned, and what talent I need to find to help me!

Overall, my business has taken a dramatic shift from what was a 50/50 mix of photography and video to a more video focused business.  I recently invested in a high-definition camera, and am embracing the format.

First Workspace Session!

Submitted by Warwick Patterson on Sat, 09/23/2006 - 18:18.

On Thursday evening I stopped in at Workspace for a while (my first true 'working' visit!) to get some photo editing done, and I must say it was the most productive evening I've had in a long time! Great space and views (there was a rainbow), people to chat with when you want a break (not to mention great coffee), and perhaps the REAL reason why I got so much done? I took part in my first yoga class!

As Sarah was out of town, Kevin conducted a small yoga session. I wasn't really prepared (I was wearing jeans) but it was still a great new experience, and I felt very "unwound" afterwards. I'm always pretty stiff from carrying heavy camera packs and sitting at the computer, and this session did wonders to release all that tension. I suppose that's what yoga's all about! I'll definately be dropping into more Yoga for Geeks sessions at Workspace. "Unplugging, Unhunching, Expanding!" - Exactly!

Great job Bill on following your vision to fruition, and getting Workspace off the ground!  The space looks spectacular.  Great party too...

ThisCityRocks is Live!

Submitted by Warwick Patterson on Wed, 06/07/2006 - 16:28.

I've been spending a lot of time in the city lately (I live in Squamish), and thus I can't wait for Workspace to be done so I'll have a place to sit down and work instead of driving around trying to find free wifi!

The reason I've been in the city lots lately is because of my new project - www.thiscityrocks.com.  I've been working with Megan Cole (from Raincity Studios) on a weekly video podcast about the Vancouver music scene.  We launched the first episode last Sunday, and are already hard at work shooting week 2, week 3, etc.  Check it out!

Paper DOSE Dies

Submitted by Warwick Patterson on Wed, 05/17/2006 - 23:50.

CanWest has canned the daily commuter paper, DOSE.  Hardly surprising.  In an age of expanding online communities, news sources, and citizen journalism, the launch of DOSE a year ago just seemed like really, really bad timing.  Turns out it was.
