Econ 101 - loonie to dive in 08, lululemon shares fly, leopard in 10 days, prime rate steady

Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Tue, 10/16/2007 - 08:49.

Canajun Finances pointed out a CBC article quoting RBC, BMO, and TD economists who believe the loonie will drop to the mid ¢90's by the end of 2008.loonie Rats. We'll just have figured out how to navigate the increasingly stringent border issues, and then shopping in the states will be pointless. LululemonLululemon, the Vancouver-based yogawear darling, is doing even better than expected, and their share price increased by 10%.

Laptops in Vancouver refurbished

Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Wed, 10/10/2007 - 09:53.

Laptops in Vancouver  sells cheap, refurbished laptops at wholesale prices.  I've never used them so can't endorse them, but it looks like a potential winner!  (and mac users, if you look on the bottom right, you'll see a steal on a widescreen macbook).

was a DELL laptop stolen?

Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Wed, 10/10/2007 - 09:49.

Was a Dell laptop one of the ones that was stolen?  With an "iron maiden" (!) sticker on it (possibly added later)?   If so, I may have seen it a couple days ago .... this guy in Crabb Park (and note well:  I have a lot of compassion for the homeless/addicts, so don't want to reinforce any stereotypes here!!) was sitting in the little lodge-place on an office chair covered in plastic, using the electricity there (for concerts, usually)  doing a bunch of stuff on the laptop.   If he's just some poor guy between jobs, with his own computer, all the more power to him.  If it sounds like a laptop that disappeared from Workspace, I have some identifying details about the guy.

Facebook App Are You Normal? Day One: 52% Normal

Submitted by Megan Cole on Thu, 10/04/2007 - 10:17.

Ok all you weirdos and freaks out there on Facebook - get out there and take the Are You Normal? survey so I can at least seem a *tad* more normal! Please? Here's a cool Facebook Application, just launched today, released to the masses, that you should most certainly add and play with. I'll tell you why you should:

  • It's good, clean fun that's entertaining and all about connecting with those people online you love (and love to poke fun at) the most: your close friends and family.
I've had a really great last several weeks. I've been working with the Kinzin team here in Vancouver to help market and promote this application, and you know what? It's an easy thing to talk positively about because of what is at the heart of this App: a company that truly believes in working towards finding positive ways for families to connect online. This application is a quirky and whacky way of doing just that.

The Canadian Rich really ARE getting richer

Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Wed, 09/26/2007 - 00:52.

Stats Can gave us the evidence to prove our suspicions (and not about those wretched workspace imac thieves):  5% of Canadians have 25% of the wealth.  To be in the top 5% you need to earn $89K or more, compared to the US where you'd have to earn $165K.   But before you feel bitter - that same 5% contributed 36% of the taxes CRA received.

Thief publicity

Submitted by Jason Pfeifer on Tue, 09/25/2007 - 00:50.

Ha it was hilarious this morning when Dane was showing me the flick photos that had been uploaded.  Then tonight I flip to reddit for some bored at home internet reading, and the story is nearing the top!

Ha, this guy's face is all over the world by now, surely he's not going to last long...

Nice work,

JP

Google founders park plane on NASA runway

Submitted by Nancy aka money... on Fri, 09/14/2007 - 09:00.

In case you haven't heard, google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin keep their jet in Google's backyard, thanks to a deal they struck with NASA, who operates an exclusively federal runway on Moffett field.   Yup, for a price, NASA moved their jets over ...

I wonder:  would a highly successful money-coaching company founder (ahem, with a seminar series for single parents commencing in 2 weeks) park her plane in her backyard?  If Greg Kerfoot can convince the Vancouver port authority to give public waterfront to his stadium, perhaps I have reason to hope ...

Plays and other literary matters . . .

Submitted by Cat Borrie on Tue, 09/11/2007 - 07:15.

I am adapting a 60,000 word manuscript into a solo, one act  play. If anyone has any material that might be useful, or is pals with a playwright that wouldn't mind chattingwith me, this would be great. I am doing the usual search the literature, talk to people things . . . but always on the hunt for more info. Thanks for any help.
