Les Deux Magots

Much of the inspiration for workspace came from admiring the way philosophers and artists used to socialize and work at the cafe's of Paris in the 1920's.  I was there not long ago and I checked out many of these spots, which have now deteriorated into tourist desitnations.  But I would really be thrilled if we could re-create the "Cafe Litteraire" in our little corner of Gastown.

Under Construction

Submitted by Bill MacEwen on Wed, 05/17/2006 - 22:31.

When I first walked into the suite that is to become WorkSpace I could see the potential.  But now that we've got most of the walls down, exposed the brick and opened up the view, I've got to say it's even better than I anticipated.  The loft is over a hunderd years old, built on Vancouver's original six acres.  When you stand in the middle of the space, you can see the four way intersection of Alexander, Powell, Water & Carrall to the South and the city's three ski hills to the North.

Since this site went up (less than a month ago) we've had a huge amount of interest.  E-mails from graphic designers, web-developers, grad students, photographers, illustrators, software developers and bloggers have been rolling in steadily.

The Plans

Submitted by Bill MacEwen on Wed, 05/17/2006 - 22:16.

We received the first set of plans last week, and since then there's been tireless argument and debate as to what goes where and why and how big etc.  It's refreshing for us to see the space begin to take form.  Within the next couple of weeks, construction will be in full swing.
