Chalkboard
Submitted by Bill MacEwen on Tue, 12/12/2006 - 18:54.
We've been trying to find ways to make our space more usable and more fun for our members, so we decided to start turning some walls into chalkboards. Now the second meeting room has a massive 60sqft canvas.

Lego!
Submitted by Dane Brown on Wed, 12/06/2006 - 14:13.
Yesterday Bill picked up a couple of tubs of Lego for WorkSpace members (and staff) to play with when they need a break from the grind. I haven't played with Lego for at least a decade but found it very refreshing to spend half an hour designing and constructing the totally awesome police robot seen above. Kristin built a horse but she copied it from the packaging so it doesn't count. Plus my police robot could destroy the horse in battle. Next time you're in the space be sure to sit down and build something.

Digital Projector
Submitted by Bill MacEwen on Fri, 11/17/2006 - 18:19.
We've finally gone ahead and purchased a digital projector. Our Epson PowerLite S4 projects a sharp resolution onto the white walls of our meeting rooms. Members can rent the unit for $10/hr, non-members for $25/hr.
Enjoy!

Lunch & Learn
Submitted by Kristin Evans on Tue, 11/14/2006 - 18:34.
When it comes to minimizing your tax bite – timing is everything.
Nancy Charland, a consultant with Investors Group, will be presenting a brief overview of effective tax savings tips (along with a Free Lunch!) on Wednesday, November 22nd in the WorkSpace conference room. She has also offered to answer your questions (which you could submit to us in advance), and will be providing a "check list" for you to take away with you.
Nancy writes: "Effective tax planning can save significant amounts on tax – and even though the current tax year is almost over, there are still some Year-End Tax Planning Strategies you can employ to reduce your tax bite this year and next year.
Cafe Open Monday
Submitted by Dane Brown on Fri, 11/10/2006 - 19:54.
Because Remembrance Day falls on a Saturday this year, Monday is a statutory holiday. We just wanted to let you know that the cafe at WorkSpace will be open for regular hours that day, 8am to 8pm.

It's Easy Being Green with Frogfile

With the help of Frogfile Office Essentials WorkSpace is hoping to tread more lightly on the environment. Frogfile, a Bowen Island based company, specializes in helping businesses be more environmentally responsible by offering green alternatives to conventional office products.
We'll be ordering all of our office consumables and cleaning products from Frogfile. Their website is well designed and ordering online is a breeze. With free twice-weekly delivery to Vancouver and prices that are competitive with less responsible options it was an easy choice for us.

Last night we hosted a book launch for the WorldChanging organization. An estimated 80 people attended the lecture here at WorkSpace and afterward a healthy number of us headed across the street to Six Acres for beer and revelry. If you missed out on the action be sure to check out the photos on flickr.

WorkSpace in The Sun
Submitted by Dane Brown on Tue, 10/24/2006 - 12:24.
WorkSpace had the good fortune of being featured in an article on the front page of the Vancouver Sun business section today. Our phone has been ringing off the hook all day as a result. Thank you to Bruce Constantineau for writing the article and to Ian Lindsay for the great photo of Bill standing next one of our Softwalls.

Softwalls
Submitted by Bill MacEwen on Mon, 10/16/2006 - 09:55.
I hate walls. Okay maybe that's too strong a statement but more often than not I find they just get in the way. They block your vision, your voice and your path. From time to time though you do appreciate the division (bathroom walls are handy!).
Our Space is very open and we needed some sort of division. Behold the Softwall. These structures are pure genius. They provide just the right amount of division, absorb a little sound, give you a little privacy, and if you find they're cramping your style, then heck just fold them up and put them away!
Molo, the guys and gals that make these are a local company. Their products have won all sorts of awards not least of which being part of the permanent collection in the MOMA.
